1. Introduction

Welcome back, First-year Research Immersion (FRI) Peer Mentors. Thanks for serving your research stream as a mentor during the FRI Semester 3 course at Binghamton University.

As a peer mentor, you will discover your purpose, adopt a unique mentoring style to support mentees, and develop leadership skills to support your research team. Great mentoring starts with self-awareness: knowing your own mindsets and styles/preferences so you can adapt to your mentee and team.

Where this guide starts

This guide joins the semester already in progress. Chapters 1 through 3 introduce the guide and your cohort; the weekly mindsets begin at Chapter 4, Mentoring Style, which lands on Week 4 of the semester. From there the chapter number and the semester week stay aligned.
